TEACHING PRACTICE
St James Surgery has been a teaching practice for several years.
We became a training practice in 2009. Dr Martin Foley was accredited as a trainer at the same time.
We have doctors on attachment with us for 4 month, 6 month, and 12 month placements. During this time they will develop their skills as GPs, and add to their specialist knowledge gained in their hospital placements.
From time to time the doctors in training will be asked to make video recordings of their consultations. This will help in monitoring and developing their consultation and clinical skills. The videos are not for any other purpose, and will be destroyed after use.
There is no obligation for patients to take part in a videoed consultation, but it is appreciated whenever consent is given.
Dr Tony Downey will continue to teach undergraduate medical students on their attachments with St James.
We are part of the Swindon Academy rotation for Doctors in the Severn Deanery.
